Lotte Davis has lived in four countries and visited a further 40. Her job titles—co-founder of AG Hair, and CEO and founder of registered charity One Girl Can—routinely takes her around the globe, but she devotes much of her free time to travel too. Cumulatively, this makes her an ideal candidate for our questionnaire.

Q Which in-flight film do you hope for?
A

I rarely watch movies.

A

My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante.

Q What's your idea of travel happiness?
A

An interactive trip full of extraordinary outdoor adventures and cultural experiences, preferably somewhere where English is not the mother tongue. [Editor’s note: one of Lotte’s recent trips was a helicopter safari over Kenya, with the doors open, which included landing on the edge of calderas and flying low over crocodile-invested waters.]

Q What's your idea of travel misery?
A

Tourists.

Q What's your favorite quality in a hotel?
A

Electric outlets in the bathrooms for blow dryers, and feather pillows.

Q What do you appreciate most in a travel partner?
A

Being adaptable and easy going.

Q What is your greatest extravagance while abroad?
A

Traveling first class on long haul flights.

Q What is your favorite journey to take?
A

India, but it will require sourcing an adventure travel specialist to show me a very unexpected side of it.

Q What is your greatest fear abroad?
A

Nothing.

Q What is the travel habit you most deplore in yourself?
A

Playing Free Cell on my phone when there’s absolutely nothing to do, like while I’m waiting for take off.

A

Whining about temporary inconveniences.

Q In what travel situations do you lie?
A

About having any goods to declare.

Q When and where were you last happiest?
A

Kenya, looking over the plains of Laikipia and feeling like it was home.

A

My laptop.
